Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - the 6th book in the series by J. K. Rowling, is published worldwide.
Within the first 24 hours, it sold 9 million copies with 6.9 million sold in the U.S. alone, roughly selling 250,000 an hour, making it the fastest selling book in history.
It generated more than $100 million in sales out of the gate, outpacing even the combined take of the top films at the box office.
It was the first book in the UK to have a standard print, large print, and Braille edition released simultaneously.
