Happy Birthday Sonu Nigam
Bollywood's Iconic Singer | Actor | Composer

Sonu Nigam is India's most successful, versatile and handsome singer.

Apart from Hindi and English, Sonu can sing in multiple regional languages such as Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bhojpuri, Urdu and, Nepali with proper enunciation.

Sonu's first stage performance was when he was just three years old! The first song he sang was Kya Hua Tera Wada on a live show with his father.

Sonu’s first album Kismat was an astounding success as it became a platinum hit and the label Magna Sound signed him again for a Bhajan album titled Sanskaar.

Sonu's first Filmfare award was in 1999 for song Ishq Bina from movieTaal composed by AR Rahman and first National Film Award was for the Kal Ho Naa Ho title track composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Sonu’s film debut as a child actor was in movie Betaab in 1983. As an adult, his debut movie was Love in Nepal in 2004. He also acted in movies like Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani and Kash Aap Hamare Hote.

Sonu has done Hindi voice over for Hollywood animated films such as Aladdin and Rio. He also sang for the Hindi version of Aladdin.

Sonu composed the title track of movie Singh Saab The Great as a solo composer. He also composed music for movies Sooper Se Ooper and Jal in collaboration with Bickram Ghosh.

Sonu has sung a song produced by famous international house music producer David Guetta in collaboration with Jay Sean. He also collaborated with Britney Spears on her I Wanna Go track remix and with Avicii for the track Indian Levels.

In an interesting incident, if Kumar Sanu would have not turned up for recording in time, RD Burman would have recorded the song Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh from 1942 Love Story with Sonu. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra was infuriated with Kumar Sanu as he was quite late. Sonu wanted to record with Pancham Da and was praying that Sanu Da doesn’t turn up but he did. And the rest is history!

Sonu has carved his own place in the music industry and composers like him for his efficieny and professionalism.

You won't see him socializing much with the film folks as he often expresses his strong opinions and has clear-cut priorities. His work is important but not at the expense of his dignity. He lives life by his own rules.
