Not Microsoft founder Bill Gates nor billionaire Warren Buffett but Jamshedji Tata, founder of the Tata group has been named #1 philanthropist in the world according to a list of top-50 released by Hurun Report and EdelGive Foundation.
Over the past 100 years, Jamshedji Tata donated $102.4 billion largely to boost education and healthcare.
In this list, Jamshedji Tata is also the only Indian in the Top 10, followed by Bill Gates & Melinda Gates, Henry Wellcome, Howard Hughes, and Warren Buffett.
The only other Indian to appear in the top 50 list is Wipro chairman Azim Premji, who is ranked 12th, for virtually donating his complete fortune of $22 billion for charitable causes.
