On 24 June 2018, women in Saudi Arabia were given the right to drive. Saudi's archaic laws prohibited women from driving a car. Many women drivers were caught and arrested in the 90s. Even till 2010, women were jailed when they posted images or videos of them driving. Activists demanding this right even received death threats online and were threatened to be arrested for being a ‘traitor’. After lifting the ban, thousands of Saudi women have applied for licenses.
