Rahul Dev Burman aka RD Burman or as his fans used to call him lovingly - Pancham Da is undoubtedly one of the greatest music composers of the Indian music industry. From the 1960s to the 1990s, he composed musical scores for 331 films.
RD Burman was born on June 27, 1939 and composed his first song at just age nine, which was used in movie 'Fantoosh' by his father. Another popular song 'Sar jo tera Chakraaye' was also composed by him in his younger days.
He is truly one of the most celebrated music directors in Bollywood and was ranked first in the Cinemaholic's list of "Greatest Indian Music Directors".
RD Burman married famous singer Asha Bhosle and the duo gave us countless melodies. Another great singer he worked so often with was Kishore Kumar. All in all, RD Burman's compositions made many singers famous. He also recorded some great compositions with his sister-in-law, the legendary Lata Mangeshkar.
Pancham da also gets the credit to introduce a wide range if genres in Bollywood music as he used to mixe western music like disco, rock and zazz with Indian and Bengali music.
